Mother's Day Update

May 13, 2012

What's Happening in 7th Grade?

~ We're wrapping up WWII. On Thursday we had the honor to hear Evelyn Banko, a survivor of the Holocaust tell her story. We've also heard 15 battle presentations from classmates. These have varied in format from lecture to full scale reenactments. All of them have covered required information.

~ We've finished The Diary of a Young Girl and turned in the final draft of the analysis papers. The ones I've read so far are very well done. These papers will not be returned, but students will get get feedback during a one on one conference.

~ The U.S.O show is well underway. Last week we chose a flyer to send home, posted information all over school, and chose jobs. Students are in the process of choosing acts and facilitating all of the jobs required to make a big show happen. Over the next few weeks they will be creating a back drop, programs, rehearsing, and putting together play lists. Every 7th grader is required to participate in a meaningful way. Be sure to put the date on your calendar and charge your camera batteries because it's going to be great! The show begins at 10:00 AM on June 6th.

~ We are beginning our last literature book of the year. Cyrano de Bergerac is a wonderful story told in play form. It will be read entirely in class during the coming week.

~ This coming Friday is our field trip and WWII final assessment. We will leave school  at 9:00 and return just after lunch. Students will spend the afternoon taking their WWII final. I could still use at least one more driver for Friday so please let me know if you're available. I guarantee it's a great trip to chaperone. The dress code for this trip is shorts and a non white t shirt. Students should bring a change of clothes, a towel, a healthy sack lunch, and one roll of cheap gray duct tape.

~ A week from Monday we leave for Fort Stevens. We will leave school no later than 8:30, so please make sure you're on time! Students should bring a small suitcase and their sleeping bag. In class on Wednesday we created the packing list. It should have come home for use in planning. Just in case it didn't make it, here it is again:
