Fort Stevens Recap Day 1

First of all, I'd like to thank your parent chaperones! They were true troopers and did a great job helping me. I enjoyed working with them a great deal.

After packing and repacking cars, we made it out the door right on time. Our first stop of the day was at Fort Clatsop. There we learned about Lewis and Clark's journey to the coast and the local area. From there we made our way to the Military Museum and Batteries at Fort Stevens. We toured Battery Mishler, which is entirely underground, played on the above ground Batteries, and explored the museum. And yet, we were still not done! Everyone jumped back in the cars for one last stop before camp, the beach. At my favorite secret hidey hole beach, we spent time playing frisbee, building sand castles, getting our feet wet, and laughing a lot. After that, it was finally time to head for camp. We were able to get a hut at Camp Rilea, the military base just down the road. This allowed us to have bunk beds and a roof over our head. We unpacked, made a fire, and cooked dinner. We ended the day with several chapters from Cyrano. By lights out, everyone was pretty exhausted.
