Fort Stevens Day 3

Our last day started early. We were up at 7 and broke camp before breakfast. After making sack lunches we loaded cars and headed to the Cape Disappointment Coast Guard Base. There we toured the base learned about river safety, the equipment used, marine professions, search and rescue, and weather patterns. We got to tour the boats, use the giant binoculars at the lookout station, and they even made us a treat. It was a great tour and very informative. Our last stop of the trip was at the Coast Guard Air Base in Warrenton. Lt. Lake met us at the gate and gave us a full tour of the helicopters used on the Columbia River. We learned a lot about the mechanics of the helicopter as well as how the Coast Guard works in conjunction with other branches of the military. It was a wonderful rap up to our WWII unit.

A special thank you to all of the chaperones who braved the trip. We couldn't have done it without you!
